This rare piece originates from the region of Taznakht in the Anti-Atlas of southern Morocco, an area with a long-standing tradition of weaving and a distinctive textile vocabulary. Woven in 1985, the rug reflects the authentic weaving techniques associated with Taznakht, where generations of weavers have developed a characteristic approach to colour, composition and craftsmanship.

The rug is made entirely from exceptionally fine and soft sheep’s wool, giving the surface an unusual softness and a subtle natural sheen. The quality of the wool becomes particularly apparent in the way the light moves across the pile, revealing delicate variations in texture and tone. Despite its refined and almost silky feel, the construction remains remarkably stable and well suited to everyday living spaces.

Fringes extend along both ends of the rug, forming an integral part of its traditional construction while adding a distinctive visual finish. Together with the tightly woven structure, they give the piece a sense of balance and durability without compromising its softness or tactile character.

More than a decorative object, this rug is a singular example of Taznakht weaving from the 1980s — combining regional tradition, exceptional wool and the subtle irregularities of a piece made entirely by hand.
