This very old Beni Ourain rug is a classic expression of one of Morocco’s most recognisable weaving traditions. Measuring 191 × 352 cm, the piece was woven approximately four to five decades ago and retains the generous proportions and distinctive character of traditional Beni Ourain carpets.

Woven entirely from sheep’s wool, it features a long, exceptionally soft pile with a deep tactile quality. The natural ivory ground is marked by a simple arrangement of black and grey diamond motifs, creating a graphic rhythm that remains understated against the richness of the wool. The irregularity of the lines and forms is part of its character, preserving the unmistakable presence of a textile made by hand.

Berber rugs rarely but regularly need a wash to retain their value. Proper cleaning will bring back the colors and remove dust and dirt. The carpets should be regularly aired and carefully vacuumed.
