This carpet is a rare find from the Ait Youssi clan in the Middle Atlas. It is a very old (early seventies) flat-woven (runner) carpet. The size as well as the weaving technique and colors used make us think that it comes from a highly elevated house/palace of the tribe, because such sizes are not common in Berber houses. In every region of Morocco, there used to be the so-called "Caids" (clan chiefs), who had a lot of power, money and palaces. So carpets belonged to the luxury goods, which these "Caids" were proud of.
