This very old and rare Glaoui rug originates from the High Atlas region of Morocco, a weaving tradition known for its distinctive geometric language and highly individual compositions. Measuring 192 × 280 cm, the piece brings together an intricate arrangement of geometric forms, framed by a continuous border and organised through a series of contrasting vertical sections.

Woven entirely from sheep’s wool, the rug combines a finely worked surface with an unusually elaborate design. Its composition is built around repeated diamonds, zigzag patterns, stepped forms and larger geometric medallions, creating a strong visual rhythm across the field. Smaller motifs are layered throughout the composition, giving the rug considerable depth and detail when viewed up close.

Cool blue and blue-grey tones form the dominant ground, creating a striking contrast with the red, white, ochre and dark accents throughout the design.
